    A VERY RARE FAMILLE VERTE 'BIRTHDAY' PLATE
    ENCIRCLED KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

    The broad medallion delicately enamelled with an eagle perched on the branch of a fruiting ginko tree, the naturalistically depicted bird looking back over its shoulder with beady eyes, the everted rim pencilled in iron-red with lotus florettes on a honeycomb diaper ground and the seal script inscription wan shou wu jiang, longevity without end (two rim chips restored, polished glaze frits)

    The present plate together with the accompanying lots are said to have been made as part of a service to celebrate the 60th birthday of the Emperor Kangxi in 1713.
