The Pavilion clock was the premier skeleton clock produced by Smith's and with its substantial and well carved base this is a particularly good example. It is interesting to note connections with other Smith's clocks. Similar lions can be seen on the 'Lion and Eagles gilt' model that appears in their 1865 catalogue; the mock gridiron pendulum with flowerhead mount is used on many Smith's clocks.
