In the 1770s the Volkstedt factory specialised in producing small well-painted wall plaques depicting local landscapes or portraits of the nobility. Johann Georg Wilhelm Greiner Senior, was Hofkommissar (Court Commissioner) of Rudolstadt and father to Johann Andreas Grenier, the court painter who also worked at the Volkstedt factory along with his brother, one of the technical assistants. Together the brothers were to later become owners of the Gera manufactory.
