decorated with line inlay, with a red leather-lined top and three frieze drawers with a pair of cupboards below with stepped panels to the front and sides -- 55½in. (141cm.) wide
Major John Roland Abbey, 1894-1969, and thence by direct descent.
Jack Abbey was among the most important book collectors of the 20th century. The majority of his bindings were sold in the late 1960's and his collection of colour plate books is at Yale University.
