The carvings produced by Lu Zigang in the late Ming period were regarded as being of the highest quality throughout the Qing dynasty and many later carvings bear his name. A similar 'mutton-fat' white jade plaque carved with a different subject but also signed Zigang is illustrated in the Catalogue to the exhibition Chinese Jades from the Mu-Fei Collection, no. 69. Cf. also a plaque from the Gerald Godfrey Private Collection of Fine Chinese Jades, sold in these Rooms, 30 October 1995, lot 830.
