cf. Daniele Baroni, The Furniture of Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, 1978, p. 158, no. 65; Peter Vöge, The Complete Rietveld Furniture, 1993, pl. 291 for illustrations of examples of the model.
Only four or five examples of this model are believed to have been made, and each one exhibits slightly different nuances. The present example has a fairly straight backrest, while the later versions appeared with more of a curve. Although one of the chairs was made in steel and aluminum, the design has its roots in the laminated and molded plywood chairs of the American design team, Charles and Ray Eames.
