This type of hooded wall clock was made in small numbers by Joseph Knibb and Henry Jones, however only one other example by Tompion is known to exist. Numbered 419, that particular clock was sold in these rooms on 2 June 1980, the property of a Lady. It had been exhibited at the British Clockmakers' Heritage exhibition at the Science Museum, 1952, no. 112 and also at the International Art Treasures exhibition at the Assembly Rooms, Bath in 1973, no.129. Its number was also stamped on the movement top plate.
The present clock, although mostly re-veneered, still tantalisingly retains some of its original walnut veneer on the backboard behind the carved apron and on the domed top of the hood
