Unsigned (Perhaps Kyoto or Osaka), Edo Period (Late 18th Century)
Katabori, stained boxwood; a powerful carving of a mounted samurai, his tachi [slung sword] hung across his back, a fan held downwards in his right hand against the side of the horse, the details of the armour carefully incised, the himotoshi formed by a large hole in the underside of the horse connecting with one in its right side
2 9/16 x 1 15/16 in. (6.5 x 5.0cm.)
