Adrien Dauzats produced a wide range of interesting graphic work during his career due to his collaboration with Baron Taylor who hired the young Frenchmen to accompany him abroad as an illustrator for publications documenting the Middle East. In 1830, they set out for Eygpt. The present works were executed in Rosetta, an Egyptian port town on the Nile Delta. Dauzats later continued his travels into Syria, Palestine and Lebanon. In 1839 he accompanied the Duc d'Orleans as the offical artist as part of his political and military expedition into Algeria.
