This picture is after the original portrait in the collection of Lord Egremont at Petworth House, Sussex, which is thought to have been painted circa 1637 (for which see Sir O. Millar, Van Dyck, A Complete Catalogue of the Paintings, Yale, 2004, IV 22).
Purchased in 1905.

The sitter (1615-1684) was the wife of William Russell (1616-1700), 5th Earl and 1st Duke of Bedford.
