2° (339 x 199mm.), woodcut vignette on title, 2 folding woodcut plates, numerous woodcut illustrations, with the blank (title detached and soiled, some heavy browning and partly strong waterstaining, spotted), contemporary calf (covers detached, worn). Provenance: Davis Dukavy? (ownership inscription on title); scored ownership inscription on title causing 2 holes; Mr F. C. Gillet (booklabel).
Fourth edition in Latin of Agricola's treatise on mining and metallurgy, first published in 1556. It was the standard textbook for over two hundred years. The woodcuts depict smelting, assaying, ventilating, hoisting etc. Wellcome II, 18; Krivatsy 76.
