Post Lot Text
First edition in French of Agrippa's celebrated polemic on the arts and sciences, which argues the limits of human understanding. The author is strongly skeptical of scientific theory and adduces reasons for giving up the quest for knowledge by rational means and for accepting religious truth. First published in Latin in 1530, the work was frequently reprinted and translated into various languages until the end of the century. Fine copy in its first, probably Genevan, gold-blocked vellum binding.
