Original art. Sunday pages. While ghosting Ham Fisher's Joe Palooka, from 1933-1934, Capp introduced to the Palooka strip a group of "hillbillies," which gained great popularity. In 1934, Capp went to United Features who were willing to release this new concept along with a second feature entitled Washable Jones. Li'L Abner went on to become an American institution.
