Qasim b. Qutlubugha known as Qasim al-Hanafi (Zain al-Din) lived and died in Cairo. He was a renowned master of Islamic traditions and jurisprudence who wrote a number of books relating to these matters.
The present codex is little known and was written during his lifetime; it may well be a holograph copy written by one of his students and corrected by the author as is shown by the marginal jotting and corrections in the text. A number of copies of his other works ae preserved in the Garret Collection of Princetown University Library, but most date from the 18th century.
