Contemporary French mottled calf, spine gilt, edges stained red (front cover slightly bowed, very minor wear at joints and edges). FIRST EDITION of Alembert's work on the famous three-body problem, whose solution led him to further researches in celestial mechanics and to calculating the precession of the equinoxes. A FINE COPY.
