ALFRED SHAW and ARTHUR SHREWSBURY
Shaw and Shrewsbury's Team in Australia, 1884-5
Nottingham: Alfred Shaw and Arthur Shrewsbury, 1885. 8vo., mounted photograph of the team, tipped-in notice on pink paper of "Shaw and Shrewsbury's specialities in cricket, lawn tennis and football goods", ruled in red throughout (mount soiled and with short tear, mainly marginal spotting to title and preliminaries), original decorative wrappers (soiled, spine and corners chipped), modern cloth box.
Shrewsbury's team played an astonishing total of 35 matches, won 16, drew 15, and lost 2. The Test series was decided by the final match: Shrewsbury made 105 not out and England won by an innings, taking the series 3-2. However, there was dissension on both sides, and whereas England kept the same team, Australia called on 28 players owing to the number of withdrawals. Padwick 4409.
