Contemporary mottled calf gilt, bound for Henry Herbert, 9th Earl of Pembroke, covers with centrally-placed coroneted wyvern crest, coronet tool at the corners, spine gilt with wyvern and coronet in compartments, the uppermost with Fountaine elephant crest (spine slightly rubbed). Provenance: Henry Herbert, 9th Earl of Pembroke (1693-1750, binding, inscription: 'Given to Sr And. Fountaine June ye. 7th. 1741. Pembroke'); Sir Andrew Fountaine (binding). FIRST EDITION. Engraved portrait of the author (slightly shaved) and emblematic frontispiece. (Occasional light browning.) 18th-century english calf gilt, panelled covers, spine in six compartments with raised bands, green morocco lettering-piece in one, the others with elephant crest tool (small cracks to upper joint and at head of spine). Provenance: Sir Andrew Fountaine (binding).

Contemporary English russia gilt, covers with fillet and crown roll-tool border, spine in six compartments with raised bands, blue morocco lettering-piece in one, the others with overall lattice-work made up of pointillé rolls with small stars or circles containing stars at each intersection, the uppermost with a lozenge-shaped panel left blank except for an elephant-crest tool (upper joint a little weak). Provenance: Brigg Fountaine (d.1830, great-nephew of Sir Andrew). (3)
