Wilmer McLean is famous for his involvement in the begining and end of the Civil War. The unusual story of Wilmer McLean began with the First Battle of Bull Run (Manassus), which took place on his farm. Many believe this was the start of the war. Four years later, Lee signed the surrender documents at Mclean's home. McLean was fond of saying that the war started on his front yard and ended in his parlour.
