Similar in concept to the 'Service Rousseau', the present Lot represents a fusion of traditional form with fashionable oriental decoration. Several examples of carved and lacquered furniture, most notably a grand piano by Auguste Majorelle, are in the permanent collections of the Muse de l'Ecole de Nancy (Cf: Alastair Duncan, op.cit., Pl. 2).
