Maker's mark of J.B. Edwards, Retailer's mark of Larard Brothers
The bag designed with numerous shells woven onto silk lining and an engraved gold frame and chain, together with a letterhead from John Hammerton, Colac:
'BEAUTIFUL SHELL BAG'
At the antique exhibition to be held at the Civic Hall... Mr. John Hammerton will show a valuable evening bag... it consists of rare cream Marginella shells - 1300 of them!... The shells were found in... Cronulla Beach... One of the earliest settlers at Cronulla, Mrs. Ada McNamara of Oxley, Kingsway, collected the shells... until she had sufficient to crochet them into the bag - work requiring exceeding skill and patience.'
