W.A.S. Benson's (d. 1924) work was originally fostered by Morris & Co. and he became internationally recognised specifically for his designs for lighting fixtures, sold through Samuel Bing's famous shop in Paris. Benson illustrated a pattern for a related paraffin lamp, manufactured at his Chiswick Mall workshops, in a pamphlet entitled, Notes on Some of the Minor Arts. This was published in 1883, around the time he established New Bond Street showrooms ( P. Rose,' W.A.S. Benson', Antique Collecting, November 2003 pp.32-37).
