The use of animal forms and bronze as a material were a New Kingdom innovation for weights. There are faint traces of strokes on the right flank of this ibex indicating its weight (21.8 gms is approximately equivilant to 3 shekels or ¼ deben). Cf. A. Kozloff et al., Egypt's Dazzling Sun: Amenhotep III and his World, Cleveland, 1992, p. 428, no. 116, for similar larger weight and further discussion on Egyptian weights.
