AN EGYPTIAN GILT CARTONNAGE MUMMY MASK
Roman Imperial Period, Circa Early 1st Century A.D.
Brightly painted, the deceased depicted with the fisted right hand held against the chest, wearing a beaded mummy net of turquoise blue beads on a red ground, a floral broad collar and a striped nemes-headdress with a cobra frieze and a recumbent Anubis on the lappets, a winged solar disk over the brow, the integral head cover with a symmetrically-arranged train of deities on a gold ground, three to each side flanking the deceased, shown and labeled Osiris, standing between offering tables with ewers, the deities are Nut in the guise of Nephthys, Isis with green-colored skin tones, Anubis, Horus who avenges his father, Thoth, and Amun-Re
