AN EGYPTIAN POLYCHROME WOOD INNER SARCOPHAGUS FRAGMENT
DYNASTY XXI (1075-944 B.C.)
Painted on both sides, the interior side showing a frieze of standing mummiform deities alternating with libation vessels on stands, the deities with cones on their heads, two holding ankh-signs and one with sceptre, a hieroglyphic frieze above them, the exterior side with elaborately painted scenes within panels below a frieze of uraei and sun discs
18 x 9¼ in. (46 x 23.5 cm.) max.
From an English private collection formed in the early 20th Century and thence by descent to the present owner.
