Lot Essay

Tit amulets, also called the "Girdle of Isis," were prescribed by chapter 15b of the Book of the Dead to be made of red jasper, the color of the blood of the goddess. When placed on the neck of the mummy, "the power of Isis will be the protection of his body." See pp. 44-45 and the cover image in Andrews, Amulets of Ancient Egypt.
