The gilt bar pattern movement jewelled to the third wheel, early straight line lever escapement with bimetallic compensation balance, 18K gold cuvette, white enamal dial with turkish chapter ring enclosing subsidiary rings for day and date, blued steel hands, within an 18K gold case enamelled with a border of flowers on turqoise ground enclosing a portrait of Sultan Abdul Majid and a view of Constantinople, 1850's--48mm. diam.

Sultan Abdul Mejid (1839-1861) broke with tradition by using his own likeness on watches. The portrait probably dates from before 1853 when a medal depicting the sultan wearing the same fez and argrette was issued.
