An English walnut longcase clock The hood with carved giltwood finials to stepped caddy top with blind fret panels, dial aperture originally 11½in. square, with polygonal giltwood-capped three-quarter columns and conforming pilasters to the rear slats, glazed side panels, the trunk door with moulded frame and lenticle glass, on plinth with later skirting and bracket feet, the 11in. square engraved brass dial with male figure seasonal spandrels and Roman and Arabic chapter ring with dot minute track, signed in the centre Daniel Pegler above arched date aperture, inscribed below M/M.P/Newnham, replaced hands, the thirty hour four pillar movement with anchor escapement and outside countwheel strike on bell; case early 18th century and associated to movement, late 18th century -- 90½in. (230cm.) high
