AN ENGRAVED TORTOISESHELL SET OF COMBS WITH CASE
Jamaica, 1676
The case engraved on one side with a coat of arms, and on the other with a palm tree and pineapple plants, and inscribed 'IAMAICA 1676'; the case with a small swivelling hook for a cover, now lacking; the two combs each embellished with engraved scrolling floral decoration.
Minor damages and losses.

Lot Essay

Another tortoiseshell comb and case, evidently from the same hand, and inscribed 'JAMAICA 1678/ Mary Wilkins' was sold at Sotheby's, 10 July 1975, lot 117.
