AN ETRUSCAN BUCCHERO COLUMN-KRATER
circa 6th century b.c.
The large ovoid vessel on a flaring foot, the upturned handles joined to the rectangular rim extensions in the usual manner, with additional straps centered on each side, both molded with large masks with pointed chins and rimmed, almond-shaped eyes, the shoulders adorned with applied masks framed by simplified arching hair with voluted ends, each mask framed by a pair of figures with the arms bent at the elbows, the hands holding tendrils of hair along the chest, with three encircling grooves below
