Sold with a quantity of original documents, including several official invitations and programmes, a portrait photograph and two Russo-Japanese War postcards, one of the latter signed by a Japanese Admiral.
Surgeon Vice-Admiral Sir Joseph Champers, K.C.B., C.M.G., was the distinguished Medical Director of the Royal Navy from 1923 to 1927. Irish born and educated, he entered the Royal Navy as Surgeon in 1889. He served on H.M.S. Pearl when that ship was off South Africa from 17.4.1902, and as an Operating Surgeon at the R.N. Hospital, Chatham during the Great War.
