Sergeant J.N. Waugh, D.C.M., served in South Africa with the Dhanjibhoy Tonga Train. Concerning the train Lord Roberts wrote in his Despatch of 31.3.1900:
'My thanks are due to Khem Bahadur Dhanjibhoy, a Parsee gentleman, long resident in the Punjab, who presented tongas for ambulance purposes. These tongas were horsed and fully equipped with drivers and all necessary gear. They proved most useful.'
Sergeant Waugh was attached to the Supply and Transport Corps, Punjab Command and served throughout the Campaign with the train. As well as being awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal he was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 2.4.1901 refers).
