THE PROPERTY OF
THE LATE ROBERT CUSACK-JOBSON, ESQ.
Robert Ralph Cusack-Jobson (1916-1999) grew up in the home of his uncle, Major Ralph Cusack, of Abbeville, County Dublin (now the home of the ex-Irish Prime Minister, Charles Haughey), a notable collector of pictures and furniture. Building upon the family collection, Cusack-Jobson was one of the earliest to note the fine quality of Irish 18th Century walnut and mahogany pieces. Over sixty years, often in collaboration with his close friend Ron McDonnell, the doyen of Dublin dealers, he uncovered pieces of notable quality and elegance. (McDonnell left much of his own fine collection of Irish furniture for permanent display at Malahide Castle). An important chair from Jobson's collection was sold in these Rooms, 12 November 1998, lot 143, and this group of elegant pieces give further example of his discriminating taste.
