The present bust is after the renowned full length statue of Hermes carrying the infant Dionysus at Olympia, by the mid 4th century Greek master Praxiteles.
Please note this lot has suffered damage on the view. The head has been broken off. Christie's will make arrangements to restore the piece, at our own expense, if desired, on behalf of the successful purchaser.
