The table top offered in this lot is closely related to a pair of table tops now in the Palazzo Pitti by Antonio Cioci, recorded as working at the Galleria dei Lavori in Florence from 1771 until 1792. Still lifes incorporating Etruscan vases after the Antique inlaid into a porphyry or agate ground are characteristic of Cioci's oeuvre. Several examples are illustrated in A. González-Palacios, Il Tempo del Guston, La Toscana e l'Italia Settentrionale, 1986, pp. 224-250 and U. Baldini et al., La Capella dei Principi e le Pietre Dure a Firenze, 1979, figs. 76-78.
