Lot Essay

The overall proportions and distictive square capitals of this side table are similar to related examples in the Pitti Palace in Florence. These include a giltwood table executed by Lorenzo and Antonio Dolci in 1794 and a white-painted and parcel-gilt example, with a similar central rosette, executed circa 1785, which is in the sala dell'Aurora of the Galleria Palatina (see E. Colle, IL Mobili di Palazzo Pitti, Florence, 1992, p. 116 and p. 137).
