GEORGE ADAM GRAFF (Rotterdam 1900 - The Hague 1977)
The work of the Dutch sculptor George Graff reflects the modern movements of his days. As a pupil of Johan Coenraad Altorf, himself influenced by his master Jozeph Mendes da Costa, the works by Graff clearly show the superb standards of Dutch applied art in the first half of the 20th century. Graff specialized in stylised human and animal figures. He worked as a restorer of historical and monumental sculpture and also executed sculpture designs by his contemporaries. A wooden figure of a monkey by Graff is included in the Meentwijck collection, Bussum.
The following lots (323-327) have always remained in the artist's family.
