Lot Essay

This table is a copy of one at Fontainebleau and a table of this form appears in the renowned portrait by John Singer Sargent known as Madame X (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York). The painting is included in the 1998-1999 Sargent exhibition (no. 26) at The Tate Gallery, London, National Gallery of Art, Washington and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
