An unusual boxwood and ivory chess set, the kings carved as tritons, the queens as nerieds, the bishops as fish with heads cast upwards with gaping mouths, the knights as seahorses and the rooks as masted vessels, the pawns as fish, possibly Imperial Russian, late 19th century, the kings -- 4½in. (11.5cm.), the pawns -- 1¾in. (4.5cm.) high.
