B.E.M. London Gazette 2.2.1945. Recommendation states 'On the 11 June 1944 Lance-Corporal Williams was in charge of five men accompanying floating equipment across the English Channel by H.M.S. Sesame. The vessel was sunk by an explosion. There were five survivors from the vessel all of whom were picked up by Lance-Corporal Williams and his crew. Lance-Corporal Williams was personally responsible for saving the life of one man belonging to the vessel, having dived into a very rough sea, fully clothed and with complete disregard for personal safety'.
