H. Born and U. Seidl, Schutzwaffen aus Assyrien und Urartu: Sammlung Axel Guttmann, IV, Mainz, 1995, pp. 90, 94 and 107ff., pls. I and IX (AG 385).
This helmet is a rare example with multiple rim holes for the attachment of a lining fabric. It has been suggested in the above publication that the abstract motif may represent either a lightning bolt, a pair of antlers, a sacred tree or possibly a stylized winged sun.
