    Lot Essay

This is a fragement from the one-fascicle Amitartha sutra, called in Japanese Muryogikyo. Considered an introduction to the Lotus Sutra (J. Hokekyo), it proposes the myriad meanings of the "one true nature" in three sections, devoted respectively to virtues, as here, sermons and merit. See The Threefold Lotus Sutra, translated by Bunno Kato et al. (New York and Tokyo: Weatherhill/Kosei, 1975).
