Lot Essay

Aspects of Mughal and Pahari paintings influenced the 'Indian style' paintings of Asit Haldar and his contemporaries. These paintings were miniature in scale with an emphasis on intricate ornamental details and a preponderance of literary and mythological themes. One of Asit Haldar's peculiarities was to work on poetic metaphors and allegories, linking them frequently to Rabindranath Tagore's lyrics, occasionally investing them with independent evocative titles.
