To the best of our knowledge this is the first example of this model in platinum to be offered publically at auction in recent years. Audemars Piguet confirm production of this watch and its subsequent sale in January of 1941. Prior to being sold, the watch was part of a small exhibition at the New York World's Fair from 1939-1940.
Collectors have noted that this rare Audemars Piguet model resembles the Patek Philippe Top Hat, references 1450 and 2480.
An archival advertisment featuring this unusual model is illustrated in Swiss Wristwatches by Gisbert L. Brunner & Christian Pfeiffer-Belli, p. 178.
