(10 1/4 x 6 5/8in.), contemporary purple-black morocco gilt, covers with ornate gilt border and central ornament, spines gilt-lettered and gilt-panelled, g.e., inner hinges reinforced with blue silk but a few joints parted internally, some old wear and repolishing to corners, occasional very minor spotting, mostly to text leaves, some slight browning at edges only, lacks subscribers' list in vol. 4.
FIRST OCTAVO EDITION, bound from the parts with stab-holes evident, 500 hand-colored lithographed plates after Audubon by W.E. Hitchcock, R. Trembly and others, printed and colored by J.T. Bowen, wood-engraved (7)
