Lot Essay

M. Bernard Marbot of the Bibliothèque Nationale has confirmed that two similar albums in their collection containing 117 albumen print photographs have a hand-written title page L'Egypte: Vues photographiques and includes a list of titles. He adds that A. R. Bisson started working for Leon & Levy in 1868 after his bankruptcy in 1866, and was commissioned by them to visit Egypt for nine months in 1869 with Edouard Welling. He witnessed the opening of the Suez Canal and travelled as far as the 2nd cataract of the Nile.
