BARRIE, Sir James (1860-1937). Autograph manuscript signed of A Slice of Life, a play in one act dedicated on the first leaf 'To Gerald du Maurier with all English rights from J.M.B. 1910', 8½ pages of dialogue and stage directions with cancellations and amendments, written on 10 leaves, 200 x 125mm. (slightly discoloured, the leaves taken from a notebook, pinned with a paper fastener at upper left corner, traces of tape at outer margin of first leaf), and an autograph letter signed to Gerald du Maurier, London, 11 January 1910, enclosing the manuscript 'to do with as you like and play wherever you choose. The token of the love I bear you', one page 8vo, integral blank leaf.
The play, a skit upon domestic life replete with misunderstandings, for three characters, was first performed at the Duke of York's Theatre on 7 June 1910. Gerald du Maurier, a close friend of Barrie's, appeared in many of his plays, and was a memorable Captain Hook in Peter Pan.
