Lot Essay

Built in 1852 by Samuel Lapham, Medford for Crocker and Warren of New York, Phantom was registered at 1,174 tons. In July 1862 whilst en route to Hong Kong from San Francisco, she grounded on Pilot Reef, 200 miles east of Hong Kong and was abandoned.

Tornado, registered at 1,802 tons was built in 1852 by Jabez Williams of Williamsburg, N.Y. for W.T. Frost & Co. She was destroyed by fire in 1875.
