Paris: Mme Huzard for Bossange, Techener, Bataillard, 1837.
8o (233 x 148 mm). Engraved vignete on title depicting the duchess' coat of arms, one facsimile (of two), extra-illustrated with a plate showing portraits of the the duke and the duchess de Berry and with the second printing of the order of the sale bound in. Contemporary green boards by Simier [his blind tooled signature on rear inner cover] imitating watered silk, front cover with the duchess' coat-of-arms, back cover with her cipher, flat spine gilt (some overall wear).
Very attractive copy, partly priced in a contemporary hand and with the names of buyers for the manuscript section, in which Bossange appears quite frequently. An interesting note on the front-fly leaf indicates that the manuscripts offered in this sale under lots 2352-2434 actually did not belong the duchess but to Le Pelletier de Rosambo. These highly important manuscripts, including the "Codex Theodosianus" from the 6th century (bought by the Bibliothèque du Roi for the considerable sum of FR4,580) were bound to match the rest of the library and offered as such.
