FIRST FRENCH EDITION. Besson's Instrumentorum et machinarum was first published in Latin at ?Orléans in 1569, and was followed by 3 editions published by Vincent in 1578: the present edition in French, a Latin edition, and a Latin edition with the preliminary text in French. The present edition, like the Latin edition of 1578, uses the engravings of the first edition, with 4 exceptions: plates 17, 35, 39 and 51, which are signed by Boyvin.
