Title-page with hand-painted watercolor border, each of the subtitles to the five books heightened with gold, the head-pieces to the five books with watercolor borders. Red morocco gilt, gilt calf doublures, edges gilt; morocco-faced slipcase. Provenance: purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 21 March 1958.
LIMITED EDITION, one of 6 copies only PRINTED ON VELLUM in the Hebrew type specially designed for this edition by Marcus Behmer, probably additional to the 850 copies printed on paper. The original 4-page printed prospectus is laid-in. The "Soncino Gesellschaft der Freunde des jüdischen Buches" was dedicated to perpetuating the work of the great Soncino family of Italian printers, whose founder had printed the first complete Hebrew Bible in 1488.
